When central plant compressed air is used for blow-off nozzles and air knives, pressure fluctuations in the main line will inevitably occur as other plant equipment is sharing the same system and air blow-off drying effectiveness will be reduced. Likewise, the use of large amounts of compressed air for blow-off results in line pressure reductions that prevent other pneumatic valves and cylinders from operating properly. It is therefore common to see large plants with multiple 50 to 100 Hp compressors with hi/low pressure switches to bring them on and off line as needed.
