Remove Dust & Debris with Sonic Ion-Air Static Control Air Knife Systems

Overview

A global automotive parts manufacturer headquartered in Japan needed a solution to ensure that inventoried parts and components were dust and debris-free when being transported on pallets from a non-clean room storage area to a clean room production area for their largest U.S. manufacturing facility. This facility employs over 4,000 people and produces starters, alternators, instrument clusters, various automotive electronic products, and inverters for hybrid vehicles.

Solution

Each of Sonic's 50 HP (37.5 kW) centrifugal blower-Blower powered Ion-Air Static Control Air Knife System is designed to provide a high air velocity static neutral air curtain knife to remove all dust and small particles. As the tugger operator moves the pallets through the air tunnel zones, it doesn’t dislodge any of the items from the pallet, and it prevents contamination as it moves to a clean room area of the production floor through an 8 ft (2.4 m) H x 8 ft (2.4 m) W tunnel.

Result

Sonic competed against Japanese suppliers and won the project. With the Performance Guarantee offered by Sonic’s design and application team and technical support provided by the local manufacturer’s rep, the customer was very pleased with the results.

After the successful installation of the first system, the customer added three more air tunnels and installed Sonic blower-powered Ion-Air Static Control Air Knife Systems to ensure 100% clean room particle blow-off from pallets.
