Industrial Air Nozzles for The Most Difficult Blow-Off Applications
Blower-powered air knives are the most commonly used high-velocity air devices for close contact drying and blow-off products at almost any conveyor speed. When products are complex, require targeted multi-point blow off air, there are large geometric shapes, or the distances from the blow off nozzle to the product may be 6” to 60” away (152 to 1524mm), the only air device with the concentrated air impact force for these application challenges is a blower-powered air nozzle system.
Since 1990, Sonic Air Systems has been designing and manufacturing a wider array of air knife nozzles and the blowers that power them. From 3/8” to 4” diameter (10 to 101mm) and blowers from 3 to 50Hp (2.2 to 37.5kW), Sonic application engineering supports virtually every industry with the most energy-efficient and effective blow-off air nozzle solutions.
What Is a Blower Air Nozzle and How Does It Work?
A properly designed and aerodynamic blower-powered air knife nozzle has a much larger total discharge orifice area than that of a comparable length and narrow air knife slot. This results in discharging air volume many times higher, thereby allowing the concentrated high-velocity air stream to project its impact air onto a product surface at distances up to 15 times that of the diameter of the air nozzle itself.
Matching the nozzle size(s), the number of nozzles, the type of nozzle manifold, and the blower specifications to the application requirements (blow off or a drying standard) is where qualified application engineering is a must. Additionally, the proper integration of all the blowers, air nozzles, and the air piping to couple the system together is equally critical to a successful installation.
Sonic’s “Nozzle Air KnifeTM” is an engineered device that utilizes the high-velocity, laminar curtain of air generated through the precision slot of an air knife, combined with nozzles to achieve target spot air delivery. This device is ideal for spot drying and precision blow-off. Our air knife nozzle comes in a variety of shapes and sizes and is designed to meet the unique demands of drying, blow-off, cooling, and heating of irregular shape products.

Sonic Air Systems’ Air Nozzle Advantage
At Sonic Air, we’ve spent decades perfecting the science of controlled airflow. Our engineering expertise, patented designs, and in-house manufacturing allow us to produce air nozzles that outperform traditional systems in efficiency, reliability, and performance.
- Engineered Precision: Each Sonic air nozzle is designed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to ensure uniform flow distribution and minimal turbulence. This engineering rigor delivers stronger impact forces with less air consumption, ideal for energy-conscious facilities.
- Energy Efficiency by Design: Our nozzles are designed to operate with blower-supplied air, a far more cost-effective alternative to compressed air. When paired with Sonic centrifugal blowers, they can reduce energy use by up to 75% compared to compressed air systems, significantly lowering total operating costs.
- Durable and Sanitary Construction: Available in anodized aluminum, stainless steel, or hygienic E-Z Clean designs, Sonic nozzles are built for long service life, even in wash-down, high-temperature, or corrosive environments. They’re perfectly suited for food, beverage, and pharmaceutical operations that demand the highest hygiene standards.
- Modular Configurations: Whether you need a single nozzle, multi-nozzle array, or full air knife manifold, our modular design options make integration simple. Adjustable mounting brackets and quick-release fittings allow for fast reconfiguration or maintenance.
- Application-Driven Customization: No two manufacturing lines are identical. That’s why Sonic engineers collaborate with your team to tailor each nozzle’s shape, slit width, flow rate, and orientation. The result is a system perfectly tuned to your product geometry, line speed, and environmental conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions
There is an almost endless number of application considerations for determining whether Sonic XE air knives or air nozzles produce the most effective and efficient blower-driven results. Generally, air knives deliver laminar airflow over a wide surface area, while air nozzles are better suited to narrow, targeted surfaces. Whichever combination of blower power and impact air force you choose, just remember to request a Sonic blow-off performance guarantee.
If Sonic doesn’t already have a suitable design out of the hundreds of standard and customized air knife nozzle models we have to choose from, contact us and we will be happy to design one to meet your needs.
No. Blower-driven systems operate at noticeably lower noise levels than compressed air systems. When paired with Sonic’s tunnels and enclosures, a <80 dBA performance can be achieved, and additional inline silencers can further reduce sound output.
Sonic’s engineering team designs balanced manifolds that distribute air evenly to each nozzle, using precision internal passages and flow control fittings. This ensures consistent velocity and pressure across every outlet, preventing uneven drying or blow-off performance.
